IIDA Product Runway

Interbrand Design Forum + Shaw Floors

OBJECTIVE:  Design an outfit, based on a chosen music genre, out of materials that can be obtained from a vendor who is a partner and a sponsor.

INSIGHT:  We picked Rock n' Roll as our genre and we defined it as aggressive yet glamorous.  Our sponsor who provided the materials was Shaw Floors.

BIG IDEA:  "Rock is Life"
Pulling inspiration from Shaw's new carpet line in the spring of 2015, we developed a loud and detailed costume that was entirely made from the materials in carpeting.

MY ROLE:  Concept and sewing

MEDIUMS USED:  Materials in the manufacturing of flooring

I made the pattern for the shirt and sewed both the shirt and jacket out of carpet backer and carpet.

Final Design

Everything was made from flooring materials excluding the metal studs. The skirt was crocheted from carpet yarn and the jacket and top were made out of carpet and carpet backing. The jewelry and the wings on the shoes were made of resilient flooring.  We shredded tassels of the yarn to make the fur shawl and secured it to a collar piece made of mini samples of Shaw's hexagon carpet tiles.
